4th December 2007 Print
With only 186 days to go until the kick-off of the 2008 European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland, Lufthansa has good news for all soccer fans. It will be the only European airline to fly to all the EURO 2008 venues. A total of 31 European Cup games will be played in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Basle, Zurich, Berne and Geneva between 7 and 29 June 2008.

Lufthansa has designated Munich as its “football hub”. The German flag carrier will link its hub in Southern Germany with all the venues in Switzerland and Austria and thus offer its customers and football lovers throughout the world convenient, fast connections to the individual matches.

A number of new services will be added to the summer timetable. From 5 to 20 June 2008, Salzburg and Innsbruck will be served twice daily from Munich. With five flights a day to Vienna, the city will be within easy reach of Munich for football fans. A further four daily flights to Vienna will operated on a codeshare basis with Austrian Airlines. On 30 March Lufthansa, will launch a new thrice-daily service to the Austrian city of Klagenfurt, offering one of the fastest connections to the region of Carinthia.

During EURO 2008, Lufthansa will offer up to 21 flights a day between Munich and Switzerland. Zurich will be served six times daily by Lufthansa. In addition, there will be four SWISS flights a day from Munich to Zurich. Basle is only 75 minutes away from Munich and can be reached conveniently six times a day. Three daily flights will link the Bavarian capital with Berne, while football enthusiasts travelling to Geneva will have a choice of six flights per day.

Lufthansa also offers regular, non-stop flights to most of the EURO 2008 venues from other German airports such as Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Hamburg.

All return flights can be booked for as little as 99 euros. This betterFly fare applies to Economy Class and includes all taxes, charges and the Lufthansa Ticket Service Charge of ten euros for online reservations. Miles & More members can collect miles on these flights. For more information or to make a reservation, please visit our website or contact the Lufthansa Call Center on “0180 – LUFTHANSA” (0180 5 83 84 26), Lufthansa-designated travel agencies or Lufthansa sales counters at airports.

As the “Sports Airline”, Lufthansa has cooperated for many years with the German Football Federation and the top German team Bayern Munich. Lufthansa was also one of the main sponsors of the World Handball Championships in Germany earlier this year.

The Handball Cup Final in 2008, 2009 and 2010, when the top four German teams battle it out for the trophy over a single weekend, will be named the “Lufthansa Final Four”.

In addition, the airline is a “national promoter” of the German Sports Aid Foundation. It has for many years been a partner of the National Olympic Committee and, since May 2006, of the German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB). In that capacity, it traditionally flies German teams to the Olympic Games and the Paralympics.
