Lufthansa is all set to continue its growth in the New Year. To accommodate future expansion, Germany’s biggest airline will be taking on close to 4,300 new staff in 2008. The need for further employees is particularly great in operating areas, where Lufthansa is seeking 2,000 flight attendants and 1,000 other staff for passenger support as “Service Professionals” at Frankfurt and Munich Airports.

Up to 360 trainee pilots will also commence commercial pilot training courses at the Lufthansa Flight Training institute in Bremen. The Group is additionally offering positions at the airline to 325 apprentices and 600 university graduates and academics.

The number of new recruits in 2008 is even higher than in the two preceding years; it raises the grand total to an impressive 9,785 staff additions in just three years. ”Lufthansa is staying on the growth path: We are enlarging our fleet and our route network. This year alone, we are taking on close to 4,300 new staff. In the course of the past year, we received 100,000 job applications, which we regard as a great show of confidence in the future of the airline and an indication of the convincing appeal of our Group,” said Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber.

Lufthansa ranks among Germany’s most attractive employers, offering a broad array of career opportunities to existing staff and new applicants. Aside from direct entry to positions within the Group, university graduates, whatever their field, can apply for places on management trainee programmes, such as “ProTeam”, “StartTechnik” or “Into IT”. Other trainees have a choice between 39 different vocations or can apply for a place on the “Aviation Management” programme, combining commercial training with a degree course at the European Business School.

Lufthansa also runs specialist courses for “Service Professionals” for future employment as flight attendants or in passenger service at airports. Training as a commercial airline pilot at Lufthansa Flight Training in Bremen and Phoenix/Arizona is the stepping stone to a personal dream career for many of the applicants. Year-in year-out, Lufthansa prepares young pilots to apply their skills in a fascinating workplace, flying its aircraft.

Staff in the Lufthansa Group have every chance to further their prospects and career development by making use of a wide array of opportunities for advanced training. A number of attractive working-time models allow staff to optimise their work-life balance.

Job applications can be submitted to Lufthansa online through the airline’s Be-Lufthansa.com career portal. All the details about entry opportunities and the necessary qualifications are available for download.

The Lufthansa Group currently employs more than 105,000 people, including around 65,000 in Germany.
