Rumba, snorkel or trek your way across Latin America and help save the Amazon

19th December 2006 Print
Leading adventure travel company, Intrepid Travel, helps travellers breathe easy and save the rainforest.

Intrepid Travel, one of the world’s leading adventure tour operators (intrepidtravel.com) has launched a new initiative on all of its Latin America trips. Travellers will be safe in the knowledge that they are doing their bit to protect the environment with 10% of the total cost of all Latin America trips booked between 1st February and 31st March 2007 donated to the Intrepid Foundation’s Amazon Fund.

Known as the 'lungs of the Earth' and creating 20% of the world's oxygen, the Amazon is a truly amazing place. But the rainforest is under threat. Each day huge tracts of forest are logged or burnt to make way for cattle grazing, soy farming and mining. As the rainforest disappears indigenous communities are losing their traditional homelands, thousands of species of plant and wildlife face extinction, and climate change on a global scale is accelerating.

Each and every Intrepid Latin American journey will help fund projects that are working towards a sustainable future for the Amazon: by educating and empowering locals to choose the future of their land, by encouraging sustainable land use and helping to stop illegal deforestation of one of the most incredible places on earth.

There is so much to discover in Latin America and on an Intrepid adventure you'll discover more than just the usual sights. Imagine watching lava light up the night sky on a volcano in Costa Rica or watching the rising sun over the misty ruins of Machu Picchu. Enjoy an encounter with a 200 year old tortoise in the Galapagos, share a meal with a family on the islands of Lake Titicaca, breathe in the crisp air as you trek past the icy blue glaciers of Patagonia or strut your stuff through the streets of Havana at an impromptu rumba lesson.

Furthermore, you get a taste of the real Latin spirit before you go at Intrepid’s Latin America Festival on 24th February 2007, in Islington, London with street entertainers, food, drink and funky vibes! For further information please call 0800 917 6456.
