‘Holidaymakers are minimising their carbon footprints and booking holidays closer to home’ say Haven and British Holidays. Last week they recorded their biggest ever increase in sales, with a whopping 60% increase over the same week last year.

‘It seems many people are more concerned about travelling abroad, whether it’s in response to government and media pressure to minimise your carbon footprint or because of the threat of terrorism and delays at the airports,’ said Tim Gibson, Operations Director of Haven Holidays. ‘Our bookings have seen a significant increase this year, with more people snapping up the peak school holiday dates.’

Haven say most of their customers travel no more than two hours to reach their holiday destination. Book a holiday in the UK and you can be unpacked and enjoying yourself in less time than it takes to check in for an overseas flight – and with no guilt about damaging the environment by flying.

What’s more with another hot summer expected in the UK the idea of a holiday closer to home becomes even more appealing.

Tim said, ‘With more holidaymakers choosing to stay in Britain, many dates in July and August are already filling up. We’re advising people to book early to make sure they get their first choice of date, destination and accommodation preference.’
