A Philadelphia royal weekend

15th February 2007 Print
Philadelphia Royal Weekend You don’t have to be the Prince of Wales to get the royal treatment in Philadelphia! With this special Royal Weekend, you can follow the same itinerary that Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall followed when they were in Philadelphia recently – without being bothered by the paparazzi! Philadelphia features a variety of world-famous cultural attractions, history, shopping (tax-free on clothes and shoes) and a variety of first-class dining experiences.

Day 1
Like Their Royal Highnesses, you’ll fly from London Heathrow to Philadelphia with British Airways.
Upon arrival you will be met by your driver and transferred by limousine to the elegant five-diamond, four-star Four Seasons Hotel, located along the picturesque Benjamin Franklin Parkway. In addition to accommodating the Royal Couple, the Four Seasons has hosted everyone from rock stars and sports stars to presidents and movie stars.

Day 2
Make your way to the Independence Visitors Centre for a two-hour guided Mural Arts Tour aboard an old-fashioned trolley. With more than 2,700 outdoor and indoor murals, Philadelphia is the unofficial Mural Capital of the World. More than just works of art, these larger-than-life creations weave together culture, history and creativity. Journey through some of Philadelphia’s diverse neighbourhoods and hear the fascinating stories behind each community’s murals - how the themes were chosen, how they were made - and come away with an understanding of how art has the power to transform lives.

Suggested afternoon activities
Spend a leisurely day exploring the city; run up the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, then go inside and view some of the world’s finest collections of art; enjoy high tea at in the Swann lounge at your hotel; visit the Reading Terminal Market for a taste of Philadelphia foods and home baked Amish pastries.

Suggested Evening Activities
Dine like royalty at one of Philadelphia’s trendy restaurants or steakhouses. Philadelphia is one of the top restaurant cities in the U.S.A. Take in a show at the Academy of Music, the Grand Dame of the Avenue of the Arts. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall helped celebrate the Academy’s 150th anniversary with a performance and gala. Or, listen to live music at one of the many nightspots in the city.

Day 3
Today, take advantage of your City Pass… take a trolley tour of the city to learn the history of Philadelphia, the birthplace of the U.S.A. and the see the main attractions the city has to offer. You can board and re-board throughout the day. You can also visit;
• Franklin Institute Science Museum, featuring an IMAX theater & planetarium
• Philadelphia Zoo, the nation’s first zoo
• National Constitution Center, the only museum in the U.S.A. dedicated to the Constitution
• Adventure Aquarium, featuring a walk-through shark tunnel
• Your choice of either the Academy of Natural Sciences or the Independence Seaport Museum

Visit the Liberty Bell, the international symbol of freedom and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Spend your day exploring Philadelphia’s charming neighborhoods. Or, shop in Rittenhouse Row, the upscale shopping and dining district, full of designer clothes, galleries and jewelry stores. And, you won’t pay a King’s ransom, because there’s no tax on shoes or clothing in Philadelphia and the region!
