The Chateau of the Great Sun, a magnificent Military Chateau has been restored. For those who have read ‘A Year In Provence’ and / or seen the film, the story of the restoration of this beautiful Chateau, the subject of a fourth-coming book, will make the trials and tribulations of Peter Mayle’s characters seem pale in comparison. The project that has taken 4 years and despite being a Military Chateau, the Chateau possesses the atmosphere of a large, warm and comfortable family home, offering comfortable accommodation for up to 14 people.
The dining room boasts a substantial templar dining table with seating for 14 people.
There are 7 bedrooms:
• 4 of the bedrooms have ensuite facilities. 6 of the bedrooms have double beds
• 1 bedroom is twin bedded.
• 2 Cots are available: 1 cot in the Family Bedroom and I cot in the Nursery.
There is also a covered heating swimming pool.
The Chateau has been restored to a high standard and is ideally situated to explore the Pyrenees and the Cathar castles that are close by. It offers families and groups a location that combines ease of access (35 minutes drive from Carcassonne Airport and 55 minutes drive from Toulouse), comfort and spectacular scenery.
As the recently updated website: chateauofthegreatsun.co.uk reveals, there is much to see and do in this part of South West France, as well as enjoy within the Chateau's walls including a wide variety of art of different styles both modern and not so modern.
Small business meeting may also be hosted there.
The last Seigneur of the Chateau was Bertrand de Molleville, Louis XVI's Naval Minister who made his fortune milling woad.
The Mayor also had his office here until shortly after the last war. At which time, the Chateau hosted a number of weddings. The square in front of the Chateau is still used for wedding groups and the church opposite is used for services.
The Chateau has long associations with the French Foreign Legion who periodically (at the invitation of the Mayor), parade on the square in front of the chateau.
