Fly fishing breaks to Finnish Lapland

6th March 2007 Print
Fly Fishing In Lapland Finnish Lapland specialist Canterbury Travel is offering a fly fishing short break tour to Finnish Lapland this summer. ‘Fly fishing under the Midnight Sun’, is a four-night dream come true for any enthusiastic fly fisherman or woman. Based near the city of Rovaniemi, on the Arctic Circle, there is a chance to fish all day for three days on some of Europe’s finest salmon, trout and grayling rivers.

“This is a truly amazing opportunity,” says Finnish Tourist Board director Anne Lind. “The programme takes full advantage of the top quality fishing water in this part of Finnish Lapland. Better still, because the sun doesn’t set below the horizon during the midsummer season, the chance to fish around the clock will be there for anyone with the stamina.

“Finnish Lapland itself in summer is beautiful, even without its thick white winter coat. The mighty Kemijoki and Tornio-Muonio rivers are two of Europe’s most important fishing waters, with more than 2,000 combined river miles on the Finnish side of the border with Sweden. But there’s also access to more intimate little woodland rivers and tributaries that can yield excellent sport.”

The tour (departing 24 June, returning 28 June) includes guided fishing (one guide for each five guests) for eight hours of every day – and with 24-hour daylight the choice of fishing hours is left to the guests’ discretion and stamina. The price of £1285 per person includes return flights, full board accommodation, fishing permits and a guide. Guests are advised to bring their own fishing tackle and chest waders.
