Luxury barge holidays

8th March 2007 Print
European Waterways are pleased to announce the availability of their new 2007/2008 Go Barging brochure offering relaxing holiday cruises aboard luxurious hotel barges along Europe’s finest waterways. The 2007 programme offers something for everyone. Wine cruises are available in Chablis, Burgundy, Bordeaux and the South of France and take you directly to vineyards for private tastings.

Those who like to relax by combining walking and barging will enjoy the Walking cruises, on selected dates, along the Great Glen Way in Scotland, the English Chiltern Hills or the Morvan forests in Burgundy. And for golfing enthusiasts there are cruises which visit great courses like Wentworth, Sunningdale, Galway Bay and Royal Dornoch.

If larger groups which to cruise together, tandem cruising is available on some waterways. Tandem cruising means two or even three barges can be positioned on the same waterway allowing as many as 32 passengers to cruise in company. Great for families, a large party of friends or company incentive groups who require more cabins than a singe vessel offers. And such great fun!

With thirteen barges operating in France, Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland and Italy, Go Barging offers travellers one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy the beauty and rural landscapes of Europe through historic canals and small rivers. And all this can be enjoyed aboard a top-class floating hotel.

Good food and fine wine are an essential part of all European Waterways holidays: dinner cooked by each craft’s experienced chef is a daily highlight. Most vessels are air-conditioned and have sundeck splash-pools and saunas. All accommodation includes en-suite shower or bathroom and ranges from twin and double staterooms to suites with sitting areas.

All European Waterways’ vessels are individually designed and attractively furnished, carrying from 6 to 12 passengers. They provide a choice of six-night cruises, 6 of the itineraries operate in France from the Upper Loire to the Mediterranean. Other cruises explore the River Shannon in Ireland, the Thames in England and the lochs and rivers of Scotland’s highlands.

The leisurely pace of the boats makes it easy for passengers to step ashore to explore the surrounding area and daily minibus excursions are operated to visit places of interest. In France bicycles are carried for the free use of guests.

Fares start from £1,350 per person based on two sharing a cabin. Prices include all bar drinks, meals (including wine) both aboard and ashore together with sightseeing and admittance fees as stipulated plus holiday insurance.
