Something completely different – unusual holiday properties

29th March 2007 Print
Coastal Cottages With more than 500 properties spread around the coast and countryside of scenic Pembrokeshire, it’s no surprise that among these are some quirky examples for those who like a little history with their holiday cottage.

A clever conversion of adjoining railway carriages makes up The Dunes near Poppit Sands, a unique property which sleeps six and offers estuary views from its windows and sloping lawns. A week’s stay from 5 May is £348.

The Rocket Carthouse (sleeps eight) was once a Coastguard watchtower with, as you might expect, panoramic sea views, plus some bedrooms accessed by steep wooden ladders. A week’s rental from 21 April is £468.

Camrose Mill is a restored, 16th century watermill which retains the sack hoist, water wheel and milling machinery. Set in a wildlife rich area yet within easy reach of the coast, Camrose sleeps six and costs £316 for a week from 5 May.

Penrhyn is the retreat for those seeking peace and quite as it is set down a rugged track close to cliffs on Strumble Head…too far for mains electricity so with oil lamps and candles for lighting. Sleeping six, Penrhyn costs £366 for a week’s rental in October.

Enjoy a stay in what was once Roald Dahl’s holiday home, The Cabin in Tenby. This first-floor apartment is set on the sea wall in this popular resort with great views of the harbour and beaches. A week’s stay from 19 May is £528 and the apartment sleeps six.
