Premier Piedmont
New for summer 2007, Headwater are delighted to be offering walking and cycling holidays in the beautifully unspoilt wine region of Piedmont - a gastronomic gem tucked into Italy's north-western corner.Undiscovered by most tourists, the countryside is a glorious mix of gently rippling, wave-shaped hills cloaked by layers of vines, sunflowers and oak forests, crowned with honey-hued hamlets and imposing Savoy castles. Whether walking or cycling, you'll stay in fabulous hotels - including 2 nights in a restored C19 family villa complete with its own frescoed chapel!
Piedmont might be one of Italy's lesser-known regions, but its rich and fertile land produces some of the country's most famous produce: aromatic white truffles, crunchy hazelnuts and tangy cheeses such as Gorgonzola and Taleggio. (It is also the birthplace of solid chocolate!)
But its greatest claim to fame has to be its wines, undeniably the finest in Italy, and including Barbaresco, Moscato and, "king of wines and wine of kings" - Barolo. We've designed our routes so that you have lots of time to sample many fine vintages en route!
Headwater's Vineyards of Barolo Walk departs every two days from May 13 to Oct 14 and costs from £599 per person including 8 nights accommodation, breakfasts and 6 evening meals, return travel, maps and route notes. Our Barbaresco to Barolo Cycling departs every two days from May 13 to Oct 14 and costs from £829 per person including 8 nights accommodation, breakfasts and 6 evening meals, return travel, cycles, maps and route notes.
