UK motorists are non cara-fans

29th May 2007 Print
British caravanners are more likely to have experienced road rage in the UK than on the continent over the Bank Holiday weekend. Over seventy five per cent of caravanners said British drivers are the most aggressive in Europe, according to the poll by camping specialists, Eurocamp Independent.

Our continental counterparts are much more accommodating with only one in 20 people saying they experienced hostility from the Germans, French or Spanish.

Motorways are the worst flash points for tourers with twenty five per cent finding the M25 the most ‘vicious’ road on Britain’s network.

One in ten caravanners cited the A1 as the most ill-tempered road in Britain, with Germany’s Autobahns and France’s toll roads being cited as the best roads to drive on in Europe.

A spokesperson from Eurocamp Independent said: “It seems our European neighbours are much more accommodating when it comes to caravanners, reflecting their more relaxed approach to everyday life.

“The May Bank Holiday traffic tends to bring out the worst in people on British motorways as everyone is looking to get away from the rat-race and the motorways become overly congested. As a result, it seems caravanners, closely followed by lorry drivers, take the unnecessary brunt of motorists’ frustrations.

“The road networks on the continent, such as the German Autobahn, mean caravanners and motorists can travel side by side and not in competition.”

Eurocamp Independent makes it easy for tent, caravan and motor home owners to camp on the continent. Its unique reservation service means you can book complete holidays with just one phone call.

2007 sees Eurocamp Independent celebrate 20 years of providing first class European camping holidays and with 88 locations in nine European countries, it offers a site to suit all tastes. The online virtual travel assistant allows you to select criteria which are important to you, e.g. near to a beach, and then makes recommendations plotted on a map.
