The chateau’s best-kept secret is its impressive modern art gallery. Visitors will be stunned by the number of celebrated pieces by famous artists including Sir Terry Frost, Albert Irvin, Craigie Aitchison and John Hoyland with many of the works having been exhibited at The Royal Academy and Tate, as well as other leading galleries in the UK, Ireland and around the world.

These stunning pieces are not only shown within the grand space of the main art gallery but throughout the various chateau buildings as well. Set against the chateau’s classic, minimalist style, these paintings are truly breathtaking, giving the chateau a unique and fascinating edge.

The chateau’s wine credentials are central to any stay and guests can enjoy wine tasting sessions in the chateau’s main hall or in the limestone caves beneath the winery. Throughout a stay guests can experience the different vintages – from Chateau de Sours acclaimed rosé, to the new Reserve de Sours sparkling rosé, and all the other respected red and white vintages in between. Cookery courses will be kicking off later this year, so visitors can also learn about French cuisine and the perfect wines to enjoy with the dishes.

The chateau is split into three buildings to accommodate visitors; the Cottage, the Ecurie and Le Studio, each sleeping between two and eight guests. Local and international designers and artisans have used local materials (such as limestone for the floors) and have renovated rather than replaced many of the original features including fireplaces and iron-work. The essential 21st Century touches, luxuriously appointed rooms and heavenly swimming pools perfectly compliment the historic buildings and regional antiques, encouraging visitors to explore as well as relax.

Venture outside the grounds to experience rural Bordeaux – bustling villages, world-class restaurants, the towers and remains of St Emilion, the first planted vines of Bordeaux and the prehistoric caves of Lesault. The forests and rivers surrounding the region are perfect for hiking, riding, canoeing, fishing and golf, all of which can be organised from the Chateau.
