Haven Holidays turns green into gold

An impressive 32 of their parks have just been awarded the Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award and the others have achieved ‘Silver’ status – what’s more seven of the parks have reached ‘Excellence’ status, in recognition of holding the Gold award for more than five years.
Haven say, “We have vigorous policies on our parks for recycling and waste-management, as well as saving energy and water – we try and encourage all our guests to switch off lights and take five minute showers! But most importantly we aim to create a lovely environment that ensures people can enjoy a holiday that is really close to nature.”
Caravans on Haven and British Holidays’ parks are often arranged in ‘community landscapes’, with attractive clusters of holiday homes surrounded by trees and shrubs. “We try and maximise the views and minimise the visual impact on the environment. And the more trees and flowers on our parks the more we can encourage other visitors ….such as birds, butterflies and wild animals.”
What’s more a holiday on a Haven park doesn’t involve air travel so holidaymakers can minimise their carbon footprint getting there – and once you arrive there is so much to do on the parks, with swimming pools, sports facilities, kid’s clubs and daytime and evening entertainment that you won’t need to travel any further.
Hafan y Mor, in North Wales has a designated nature trail around its 500 acres with information boards in Welsh and English to help you identify the flora and fauna. Combe Haven, near Hastings in Sussex has a nature reserve that attracts ducks, swans and other wild-fowl. Both are Gold Conservation Award holders.
Not just eco friendly but wallet-friendly – prices for an Autumn break start at as little as £79 for a four night break in standard self-catering accommodation for a family of up to six people (based on breaks starting on October 1st)
Devon Cliffs which overlooks the magnificent sweep of Sandy Bay, near Exmouth has also been awarded Five Stars by the English Tourist Board. “Our beach holds a Blue Flag award and we are delighted to have achieved another Gold Conservation Award,” said a spokesperson for the park. “To also reach Five Star status is fantastic news for us, our holidaymakers and our holiday home owners.” A four night Autumn break at Devon Cliffs starts at just £89.
