Internet is no match for sunshine breaks

5th November 2007 Print
Internet is no match for sunshine breaks Just 14% of the 18,000 holiday homes advertised on holidaylettings.co.uk provide internet access for their guests, ensuring that families spend quality time together, away from the internet and enjoying their holiday.

With over 17,000 holidays taken in Spain this summer through holidaylettings.co.uk, Spain is still the favourite holiday destination for British families. Encouragingly, only 9% of the 5,073 holiday homes nestling in and around the Costas enable guests to get online during their stay.

“Whilst the internet and sites like Holiday Lettings are proving increasingly popular as a means for finding holiday accommodation, it is a relief to see that holidaymakers are being encouraged to relax and leave work and day-to-day habits behind whilst on holiday,” comments Ross Elder, Managing Director of holidaylettings.co.uk.

How other countries fare in their holiday home online offering:

Family friendly internet destinations
Cyprus - 5%
Turkey - 8%
Spain - 9%
Balearic Islands - 10%
Canary Islands - 12%

Work / business friendly internet destinations
UAE - 98%
USA - 72%
Canada - 62%
Belgium - 60%
Australia - 46%

“It isn’t surprising to see such high provision of internet access in Dubai, North America, Australia, or more long haul destinations as a whole,” adds Ross Elder. “The further afield people travel, the more likely they will want or need to make contact with family or work colleagues.”
