Eco friendly holidays in Mallorca

Solveig McNeill, Marketing Director of Mallorca Farmhouses says “No company can turn green overnight and our pledge is to take long term steps to be more environmentally conscientious in all areas of the business. This includes recycling paper, not just at our head office in Caversham, but also locally in Mallorca where we will encourage clients to do the same. Furthermore, we continue to employ local staff, use local food and wine produce in our hampers and educate our customers on steps they can take to help reduce their footprint whilst staying in one of our properties.”
Solveig continues, “The demand for eco-friendly properties is on the increase, although the demand from guests for air-conditioning and heated pools is also on the rise. Whilst Mallorca is not as advanced as the UK with its recycling, there are now more options, particularly in Palma, which we are making the clients more aware of.”
Many of the properties that Mallorca Farmhouses takes on each year are old fincas which have been lovingly renovated using recycled wooden beams, local marble and natural stone. There are also new properties that have been specifically thought through when being built which include energy saving light bulbs, timed or door driven air-conditioning and constructed by local workmen utilising local products.
Examples of Mallorca Farmhouses’ eco portfolio include:
Mansion Ses Oliveras, a six-bedroom, six-bathroom designer villa located in the south east of the island. The attention to detail is impeccable throughout, with wet room styled bathrooms and wardrobes which have been handmade locally, each subtly different. Low wattage light bulbs are used throughout and the air conditioning automatically switches off when doors are opened.
Es Costes is architecturally stunning with a minimalist design and layout matched with traditional Mallorcan style. The original stone-clad façade is complemented by large modern picture windows. With five bedrooms and five bathrooms, Es Costes is situated in the northern area of Pollenca. Bedrooms have exposed natural reclaimed stone walls with ultra-modern en-suite bathrooms. The eco-friendly pool is heated by solar panels and is flanked by a sleek wooden decked area.
Prices for 2008 start from £1,155 per week at Mansion Ses Oliveras and £1,945 per week at Es Costes.
