Writing and photography holidays in Spain

27th November 2007 Print
Creative Escapes, one of the UK's premiere companies offering creative learning holidays, announces that award-winning travel journalist Adrian Mourby will join as a guest instructor on their January travel writing course in south eastern Spain, held Thursday to Sunday January 1720.

Adrian Mourby is a regular contributor to the travel sections of the Independent on Sunday and the Sunday Mirror, and writes frequently for Classic FM, Opera Now and numerous in-flight magazines. This December he will be travelling to Italy to collect the Instituto Pucciniamo Special Award for Journalism.

Regarding his role as a Creative Escapes guest lecturer, Adrian notes, "I think the best travel writing courses are conducted in places that you would wish to travel to and write about. The material you need is all around you."

Creative Escapes teaches photography and travel writing holidays all over the world aimed at both beginners and established writers and photographers.

In addition to locations in France, India and Thailand, the courses held in Spain are set to become some of the most popular, given the excellent location and superb local cuisine. The four-day courses are taught by working professionals in an 18th-century Spanish stone villa along the Costa Blanca.

The Travel Writing Course teaches the fundamentals of writing about travel, with exercises that enhance students' writing style and powers of observation to get them writing great stories. Topics covered include finding a hook, crafting structure, developing characters, avoiding cliché, finding a niche and pitching to editors.

The Photography Intensive Course teaches professional techniques to get students composing great photographs that really stand out. After cementing the basics of aperture, metering, lenses and lighting, students embark upon a series of engaging practical exercises that improve their camera know-how and allow them to develop an individual style of shooting.

Creative Escapes' small group lectures (max 6 students) are supplemented with real-world exercises that get students out into the surrounding Spanish countryside to try out what they have learned in class. One-on-one tutorial sessions with instructors pinpoint specific needs of students, and there is ample time outside of class for kicking back and socialising with tutors and students.

The course fee of £450 covers all tuition, accommodation, full board with wine, materials, plus transfers to/from Alicante airport. Students are housed in attractive duplex chalets with full kitchen, swimming pool, gardens and great views. Travmedia subscribers will receive a 10% discount off the course fee.
