22nd February 2008 Print
If you want a Cuba experience before Castro steps down, get into the swing with Imaginative Traveller’s Caribbean Rhythms two-week tour that takes a route from Havana to the island’s oldest city – Baracoa – on the eastern tip and back again.

Highlights along the way include a guided tour of the old city of Havana, a traditional seafood supper in the colonial port of Cienfuegos and the enchanting towns of Trinidad and Camaguey.

There is hiking in the wild landscapes of the Sierra Maestra mountains to Comandancia de la Plato – Castro’s HQ during the revolution – before visiting Santiago, undisputed home of Cuba’s music scene, and relaxing with the vibes.

After free time on the coast at historic Baracoa, a revolutionary highlight on the route back to Havana is visiting Santa Clara, the first major city to be liberated by the communists, and the site of the Che Guvara monument.

Year round monthly departures cost £699 land only, plus around £166 local payment (€220), including 14 nights’ with breakfast in hotels plus some additional meals. UK flights can also be booked via the operator with the next departure – on 22 March – costing £1,399 including return flights from Heathrow.
