A sense of adventure with Qantas Holidays

Qantas Holidays has launched its first activity dedicated holiday brochure highlighting the variety of adventure experiences available throughout Australia. The new ‘Discover Australia’ brochure is aimed at the adventurous of spirit, regardless of age, budget or fitness.

Activities include hiking, diving, rafting, surfing, mountain biking, sailing, bushwalking and mountain trekking, as well as four wheel drive and small group bus tours. There are also ‘Spaceships’, a cross between a car and a campervan, ideal for independent travellers.

Tours range from one to 21-days, are suitable for groups or for independent travel and cater for budget to deluxe and everything in between. For ease of reference, tours have been categorised as follows:

DISCOVERY – for travellers wanting a ‘hands on’ experience combined with a high level of comfort

SAFARI – featuring permanent camps with ample facilities to remote bush camping with basic amenities

ADVENTURE – small group tours that offer a personal experience and notable accommodation at popular and lesser known parts of Australia

SPECIAL ACTIVITY - includes diving on the Great Barrier Reef, mountain biking in Tasmania and sailing on a multi-million dollar yacht in the Whitsundays

INDEPENDENT – for travellers who prefer to discover Australia in their own time

DISCOVERY
‘Safari in Style’ - a 3-day, small group, 4wd tour in the Red Centre showcasing the region’s highlights - Alice Springs, Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Kings Canyon. Accommodation is in spacious permanent tents. From £285.

Spirit of Adventure’ - a 5-day fully escorted tour of the West McDonnell Ranges, Finke Gorge National Park, Palm Valley, Alice Springs, Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon. Includes hotel accommodation, airport transfers, entry fees. From £2,335.

SAFARI
‘Adelaide to Darwin’ - a 14-day trip which includes canoeing at Katherine Gorge, hiking in the Flinders Ranges, a Mary River cruise and 4wd drive trip from Kakadu to Darwin. Accommodation includes an underground bunk house in Coober Pedy and a secluded campsite at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge. From £750.

‘Uluru Overnight’ is ideal for travellers short of time as one night allows them to experience the best of Uluru and Kata Tjuta, including a visit to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and sleeping under the stars at a permanent campsite. From £120.

ADVENTURE
‘Cradle Mountain Walk’ - a comfortable 3-day walking tour of Tasmania with guests carrying only a day pack so as to allow for maximum enjoyment of the 360-degree panoramas, unique flora and fauna and World Heritage wilderness areas. From £350.

‘Go wild and the Reef’ - a 3-day tour of Northern Queensland which includes one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives, exotic rainforests and wildlife and a catamaran trip to the Great Barrier Reef. From £185.

SPECIAL ACTIVITY
‘Surf and Stay’ - a 2-day trip to New South Wales featuring remote surf bungalows allowing surfers to get away from the crowds and enjoy the waves in peace. Surf lessons, accommodation and food are included. From £85.

Whitsunday Magic’ - a deluxe 3 or 6-night voyage around the Whitsundays on a Mediterranean-style, three-masted schooner. The tour includes fine food and wine, air-conditioned cabins and on-board dive crew offering introductory or certified diving. Prices from £295 and £555 for three and six nights respectively.

INDEPENDENT
‘Spaceships’ can be driven from Cairns, Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney. These vehicles are like cars to drive but with campervan facilities including cooker, fridge, full size double bed and stereo/DVD. From £30 per day based on 60 days or more.

Aimed at 18-35’s, ‘Stay on the Reef’ is a 5-night trip featuring Lady Elliot Island and World Heritage Fraser Island. Includes scenic flight from Hervey Bay to Lady Elliot Island, bunk-style accommodation in an eco cabin and lodge, return catamaran transfers, 2-days ranger guided tour on Fraser Island and all food. From £355.
