Short breaks with a difference

3rd March 2008 Print
Short breaks with a difference Native Escapes, specialist tour operator to Southern Africa, has come up with a solution to meet the demand for shorter breaks combined with destinations that are culturally interesting, out-of-the-way and which offer unique activities and experiences.

Options for short breaks include visiting wine estates and whale watching in Cape Town, or taking to the skies for a scenic flight – or a bungy jump – at Victoria Falls.

For something completely different, escape to Namibia’s desert for some hot air ballooning or eco-quad biking over the dunes, or escape to a remote wilderness for nature drives, river boating and a cultural insight into the nomadic lifestyle and traditions of the Himba people.

Trips can be anything from 4 to 8 days in length, depending on time available, and with more remote locations being accessible by light aircraft.

Managing Director Sharon Holmes explains: “With so many people leading busy lives and demanding more from their time off, we knew we needed to come up with something a bit different.

“Our short breaks were originally intended to be added on to existing safari holidays, but with flights to Southern Africa operating overnight, the continent being on a similar time zone to the UK, and low cost flights operating across the region, people can realistically leave on a Friday night and be in Cape Town or at the Victoria Falls – or in the middle of the desert, by Saturday afternoon.

“The diversity in cultures together with the huge range of unique experiences also make for a very different break - and a real getting-away-from-it-all feeling”.
