Summer holidays make a difference with Tuk-Tuk

Tuk-Tuk, the charity travel initiative, provides 2 to 3 week experiences in Sri Lanka combining volunteer work with sightseeing and relaxation.
Steve Bynon, co-founder and Managing Director of Tuk-Tuk explains:
“Tuk-Tuk volunteering holidays really do offer the best of both worlds - the chance to take part in worthwhile projects and enjoy a relaxing holiday in one of the most beautiful countries in the world.”
During Tuk-Tuk trips, volunteers typically spend half their time volunteering on projects and the other half exploring the island of Sri Lanka, visiting temples, the local tea estate and the elephant orphanage, as well as the chance to relax on the beach.
Tuk-Tuk encourages volunteers to use their existing skills to benefit local schools, hospitals and nurseries, whilst working with highly committed local workers on community based projects. Volunteers get involved with a range of activities such as teaching English to school children, repairing and redecorating village buildings and helping local people learn textiles and sewing skills to allow them to earn a wage.
Working in partnership with the Asha Trust, Tuk-Tuk is also an entirely charitable operation, so volunteers benefit Sri Lankan communities not only with their time, but also with all profits being donated back to the projects to sustain the work that’s done.
Steve goes on to say: “We’ve worked hard to create a holiday experience that provides much needed help to communities in Sri Lanka whilst still allowing our volunteers some well-deserved ‘R and R’ in a spectacular location.”
