The ultimate 14-day adventure to Costa Rica

27th March 2008 Print
The ultimate 14-day adventure to Costa Rica Watching bottlenose and spotted dolphins; white water rafting; riding to the top of an active 11,000 feet volcano; watching for the resplendent quetzal; cantering along sandy Pacific beaches and hiking in verdant rainforests - these are just some of the activities that travellers can experience when visiting the small yet perfectly formed Central American country of Costa Rica.

Reef and Rainforest Tours (reefandrainforest.co.uk), the tour operator who champions “preservation through visitation”, has created a new 14-day itinerary showcasing the full diversity and excitement in this amazing country.

Thrill seekers can hike, ride horses or mountain bikes through cloud forest to the top of the spectacular 11,000 ft Volcan Turrialba to view the smoking crater from the rim; enjoy white-water rafting down the scenic Pacuare River through pristine rainforest and deep gorges; visit indigenous villages, and speed through the air by zip-line above the treetops on a thrilling canopy tour.

Costa Rica, the size of England, is already renowned for its diverse wildlife, so guests will be aware of the opportunities to view some 850 species of birds, like the rare quetzal, and mammals including dolphins and howler monkeys through activities such as rainforest hiking and boating. Equestrian enthusiasts will also be able to enjoy riding tours through forests and along the wonderful Pacific beaches.

Accommodation is varied and as much a part of the Costa Rican experience as the activities. Guests on this itinerary will stay in an old town house in the capital, San Jose, converted to an eclectic boutique hotel but retaining much of its charm; a genuine working ranch with a charming rustic lodge which claims to be “the only hotel with a volcano in its garden”; a luxury jungle lodge on the Pacuare River, and a beachside resort in the south Nicoya Peninsula. Here guests can relax at the end of the tour and take advantage of the swimming pools, riding stables, a nine-hole golf course and one of the best beaches in the area.

This new 14-day tailor-made tour costs £3,394 per person and is based on shared double or twin accommodation. Prices includes return flights to San Jose (via Madrid) domestic flights, mostly private transfers, accommodation, most entrance fees, tours and excursions as stated, guide services and most meals.

Reef and Rainforest Tours has over two decades of experience designing and facilitating superb natural history holidays to some of the world’s best wildlife destinations. Their 16 featured destinations include Venezuela, India, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Brazil, Seychelles, Rwanda, Belize, Ecuador Galapagos, Costa Rica, Borneo, Peru, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania and Guyana.
