Luxury lodgings in Botswana’s Okavango Delta
In August 2008, Conservation Corporation Africa (CC Africa) will be opening two luxurious safari lodges set on a private 50 000 hectare concession in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Xaranna Tented Camp and Xudum Delta Lodge will be built with a light footprint showcasing CC Africa’s commitment to responsible luxury.Accommodating a maximum of just 18 guests each, the luxurious lodges will embrace their surroundings and celebrate Botswana’s iconography, including big paper mekoros (traditional dug-out canoes) and ornamental hippos and crocodiles. Chris Browne, CC Africa’s Creative Director, will add humorous design touches throughout whilst ensuring the ultimate in earthy glamour.
“CC Africa is doubling its capacity and offerings in Botswana in the coming months,” said Steve Fitzgerald, CC Africa CEO. “The game viewing in Botswana is among the finest in Southern Africa, and the diversity of products we are introducing this year will provide a range of new choices for travellers in search of luxury, adventure and the finest interpretive game experiences in Africa,” he added.
Xudum Delta Lodge will be very isolated on its own island with nine playfully crafted suites boasting handsome tones of chocolate and ebony. There will be quirky accents of recycled rubber, enamel and metal and all timber work will be rough-hewn and chunky. Everything will be created around the privacy of the suites with multi layers, rooftop sleepouts, private plunge pools and lofty hideouts.
Xaranna Tented Camp will be lighter and more airy to correlate with its gentler geographical location. The nine sleek ensuite safari tents will be cool and light with a delicate colour scheme of fatigue (khaki) and soft lily pink. Each suite will be organic in design with a combination of canvas and bleached timber, boasting private plunge pools and salas with mesmerising Delta views.
At both lodges, guests can be assured of CC Africa’s warm and personalised service and spectacular attention to detail. The exceptional safari experience will consist of morning, afternoon/early evening and night game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, boating and mekoro adventures in the Delta and guided walks. The concession offers excellent birdwatching and some of the finest game viewing in Africa, including sightings of rare roan antelope, lechwe, tsessebe, elephant, lion, hyena and cheetah to name a few.
Xudum Delta Lodge and Xaranna Tented Camp add to CC Africa’s existing and well loved lodges in Botswana, including Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp and Sandibe Safari Lodge in the Okavango Delta, as well as Savute Under Canvas and Chobe Under Canvas opened on 1 March 2008. Also making its debut on 1 June 2008 is CC Africa’s new and improved 10-day Botswana Explorer Expedition which will feature new ensuite tents, and offer an exhilarating itinerary camping in the most beautiful wilderness regions of Botswana.
