The Eagle has landed

21st April 2008 Print
Mongolia's pristine natural environment makes it one of the few places to experience real freedom amongst the great outdoors. Vast rolling grasslands, azure-blue lakes and snow-capped peaks combine to allow riders a rare chance to enter a nomadic world far removed from the strains of modern life.

Equine Adventures offer three new 14-day small group horseback adventures into one of the world’s most spectacular regions including the opportunity to witness ancient Kazakh traditions at the spectacular annual Eagle Festival.

Zavkhan Classic Ride - departs Ulaan Baatar 27th June 2008
Ride across open steppe and through forested valleys to the west of Ulaan Baatar, then relax at an abandoned mountain spa. Ascend the mountains of Tarvagatai Uul National Park, and camp amongst sand dunes by the shores of Khar Nuur.

The holiday costs £950 p/p (ride only) including transfers from Ulaan Baatar, internal flight, camp accommodation plus hotel accommodation in Ulaan Baatar for two nights (one night before departure, one night upon returning), most meals and all riding.

Eagle Festival and Altai Mountains - departs Ulaan Baatar 30th September 2008
Ride into the remote Altai Mountains before visiting the annual Eagle Festival. Originally created in order to help preserve ancient Kazakh traditions such as archery, camel racing, tug-of-war with a dead goat, a horseback game of 'kukbar', and hunting with eagles, the festival is a fantastic two days where local people show their skills and dress in traditional costume.

The holiday costs £950 p/p (ride only) including transfers from Ulaan Baatar, internal flight, camp accommodation plus two nights pre and post ride hotel accommodation in Ulaan Baatar, most meals and all riding.

Zavkhan Exploratory Pack Ride - 14 days departing Ulaan Baatar 29th August 2008.
To explore the mountains of Zavkhan, riders abandon the support vehicle and load up the pack-horses. Ride high up above the tree line, past ancient volcanic crater lakes and south along the Arkhangai mountain range. The trip is scheduled for August to maximise the chances of fine weather but it will still be cold at night in the mountains.

The holiday costs £950 p/p (ride only) including transfers from Ulaan Baatar, internal flight, camp accommodation plus hotel accommodation in Ulaan Baatar for two nights (one night before departure, one night upon returning), most meals and all riding.

Flights are not included but are available from Equine Adventures.
