Take a berry alluring trip with Eurocamp

24th April 2008 Print
Each year, the second week in May sees the medieval town of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne go strawberry crazy with La fête de la fraise - the whole family can get a taste of the action with Eurocamp.

Fragrant, red, sweet and juicy – the perfect compliment to ice-cream on a hot summer day - it’s hardly any wonder that the strawberry is the most popular berry fruit in the world. That’s what the citizens of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne maintain anyway. Each year, the second week in May sees the medieval town go strawberry crazy with La fête de la fraise, or Strawberry Festival to you and me.

If you’ve partaken in the strawberries and cream tradition at Wimbledon, why not head on down to France’s own strawberry capital to gorge on the fruit of their labour - every year almost 400 tonnes of strawberries are picked in the Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne region alone!

On the day itself, this year 13th May, visitors will be invited to tuck-in to an enormous traditional French strawberry tart, whilst there will be a fun fair and a variety of other strawberry-based events which guarantee to keep visitors, both old and young, amused.

But it’s not just the fruit that’s enticing the visitor, the town which nestles in the beautiful Dordogne river valley is steeped in history with its famous Roman portal and abbey.

Eurocamp’s Les Péneyrals, just a short drive from the Dordogne Valley, is a well-placed base from which to enjoy the festivities and explore the area.

Departing 13th May, a seven night stay at Les Peneyrals parc will cost £406 based a family of five (2 adults, 3 children) sharing a 2 bedroom Comfort mobile home with decking, including mid-week Dover-Calais return ferry crossings. Car hire available at a supplement.
