Enjoy the magic of the Maldives The Maldives has long been a tropical paradise, with shimmering, turquoise lagoons, pristine beaches and luxurious accommodation. Colours of India (partnershiptravel.co.uk) is now offering three itineraries to the Maldives, perfect for those keen on a massive dose of luxurious R&R.

Huvafen Fushi Resort
This island oozes class and sophistication and personifies relaxation. A 7-night stay costs from £2,538 per person, on a B&B basis, and includes international flights and boat/seaplane transfers.

W Retreat
W Maldives' inspired dream-to-reality motto is an extraordinary perk for this already exceptionally trendy and luxurious resort. Price per person is from £2,709 for 7-nights on a B&B basis. Price includes international flights and boat/seaplane transfers.

Banyan Tree Resort
Situated on a small, coral-ringed island, this resort stay is one of the 'Small Luxury Hotels of the World'. Rooms are stylishly furnished and spacious with view over the azure waters. A 7-night stay costs from £2,342 per person on a full-board basis, and includes international flights and boat/seaplane transfers.

The number of islands that make up the Maldives is somewhere between 1,300 and 13,000, depending upon whether sand-banks, which protrude from the water, are included. These often disappear during a storm only to reappear later as two islands.

Diving and snorkelling, along with serious R&R, is the order of the day. The clear blue waters of the lagoons and the colourful marine life of the reefs make the area one of the world’s best diving destinations. The preservation of these treasures is a major priority for the government and dive operators, who have taken the initiative in promoting responsible diving practices.

The best times of year for scuba diving are between December and March when visibility is at its best. May is the month when it's easy to spot whale sharks, which despite their huge size, are harmless and prefers plankton over fish and people!

While in the Maldives do visit the capital city, Malé, especially the Hukuru Miskiy. This mosque is built of coral stones with intricately carved Arabic calligraphy and ornamental patterns.
