Discover Austria, Switzerland and Germany on a cycling holiday

15th May 2008 Print
Specialist operator, Headwater Holidays has launched a new cycling holiday for summer 2008 that leads cyclists through spectacular scenery of three European countries in an independent 10 night ride around Lake Constance.

Known as the ‘jewel in the crown of Central Europe’, the turquoise waters of Lake Constance are bordered by Austria, Switzerland and Germany. Headwater Holidays has designed an easy route around its shores, taking in the most scenic sections of the 300kms of cycling paths and quiet rural roads, passing through picturesque villages, daisy-strewn meadows, vineyards and marinas.

This holiday gives cyclists unprecedented flexibility, allowing individuals to tailor their route to suit them. By following Headwater’s detailed cycling notes between hotels, cyclists can choose to adapt the length of their route by hopping on a bus or boat, taking their bike with them.

Starting in the old town of Bregenz in Austria, the route takes cyclists clockwise around the Lake, staying in converted monasteries, old coaching inns and friendly family hotels en route. There are plenty of opportunities for a dip in the crystal clear waters of the lake and rivers, time to explore towns and villages and to take in cultural highlights including the fairytale castle of Meersburg, the flower-decked palace of Konstanz and ancient books in St Gallen’s UNECSO library.

Headwater’s 10-night holiday departs weekly from 4 May-28 September and costs from £739 per person (self drive, based on 4-5 travelling) and from £949 per person (based on air-rail via Zurich). Prices include: return travel from the UK, 10 nights hotel accommodation (all breakfasts and 8 evening meals), bike hire, cycling maps and route notes, and the transfer of bags between hotels.
