Sierra De Gredos from the saddle

Mountains & Valleys of the Gredos summer riding holidays depart Madrid 13th and 27th July and 3rd, 10th and 17th August 2008.
Situated between the provinces of Avila, Caceres and Salamanca, crossed by the Duero and Tajo rivers, the Sierra de Gredos is one of the wildest and least populated areas of Spain. The area is characterised by snow-capped mountains overlooking numerous valleys, intersected by clear running rivers with a mix of forest and highland pastures.
From Madrid, guests are transferred to the Parador de Gredos hotel, offering superb views over Tormes valley, the Gredos massif and Piedrahita and Béjar mountain ranges. After breakfast, guests are introduced to their equine companions and given the opportunity to become better acquainted in the small arena. Riders follow beautiful and varied trails through oak, pine and chestnut forest, cross rivers, gallop through pastures and across open fields, enjoying saddlebag picnics and staying in comfortable hotels along the way.
Visit medieval sites including El Barco de Avila and ascend Puerto de Chia (5,686 feet) for panoramic views of Corneja Valley and Alberche River. Finally, return to the Parador de Gredos in time for a farewell dinner before the holiday concludes next day.
Equine companions are well-trained Hispano-Arab, Andalusian, Lusitano and Arab, all about 15-16hh. Children of 10yrs plus are welcome providing they are confident in the saddle and accompanied by an experienced adult rider.
The tour costs from £1,075 p/p including transfers, 3-nights National Parador of Gredos and 4-nights country hotel accommodation, most meals, drinks with meals, all riding and expert guiding. Flights are not included but are available from Equine Adventures.
