Haven's big green weekend

Haven's big green weekend Pack your bags for life and feel good about minimising your carbon footprint by booking a UK break with Haven Holidays. They’re holding a festival on the weekend of June 20th to celebrate all things green - there’s even a chance to meet the jolly green giant of conservation, Professor David Bellamy who will be appearing at selected Haven parks around the country.

It’s bat detecting and bird-watching, kite-flying and junk sculptures, conservation workshops, rock pool rambles and eco-treasure trails, farmer’s markets, plant sales, green fancy dress nights, and a chance to enjoy a holiday that gets you really close to nature.

Other activities planned include guided walks and bike trails – several Haven parks have their own Park Rangers who regularly organise walks to make the most of their undoubtedly beautiful locations. Look forward to a stroll along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, or across Penhale Dunes (Cornwall’s largest dune system) or around one of Blackpool’s best kept secrets – the wildlife park managed by Haven’s Marton Mere Holiday Park close to the resort.

Haven – perhaps better known for great entertainment and fun-packed facilities on their family holiday parks - are surprising leaders in the field of conservation. “We have been increasingly more focussed on environmental awareness over the past decade,” says Daniel Coward, the companies dedicated Environmental Consultant.

“All 35 of our parks hold David Bellamy Conservation awards with an impressive 33 parks achieving Gold standard. This year almost half of the parks will also be participating in the Green Tourism Business Scheme, which has even more stringent criteria to reach. Devon Cliffs looks after one of the few Blue Flag Award winning beaches that is privately managed.”

The company operates strict policies with regard to a whole range of eco-conscious activities that include saving water and electricity, recycling, the introduction of bio-degradable bags in all their shops, managing their parks to encourage wildlife and flowers and more ambitious projects such as heat and power exchange units and bore holes.

David Bellamy will be at Devon Cliffs and Burnham on Sea on Friday 20th June; Hafan y Mor and Greenacres on Sunday 22nd June and Haggerston Castle and Berwick Holiday Park on Monday 23rd June. All 35 Haven parks will be taking part in the Green Festival over the weekend – activities will vary from park to park.

Prices for a self-catering weekend break arriving on June 20th start at £119 (based on a family of four people at Haggerston Castle). Visit haven.com for immediate bookings and details of other special offers.
