Get off Namibia’s beaten track in style

Their new Desert, Tribes & Wildlife itinerary combines a unique opportunity to track desert adapted black rhino, visit a Himba Settlement and see first-hand how orphaned Leopard and Cheetah are rehabilitated back into the wild.
Tracking desert-adapted black rhino is undertaken on foot, the desert floor clearly retains each footprint, making it possible to follow a rhino's recent movements, and guests learn how to observe the surrounding area for signs of rhino presence.
A visit to a rural Himba village provides a unique insight into the culture, traditions and survival tactics of this ancient tribe. Because water is scarce in this area, the women wash using red ochre and fat, which also protects their skin against the harsh climate. Their homes are cone-shaped huts are made of sticks and mud, providing relief from the hot sun. Some time spent with these people gives an insight into a very different way of life.
Big 5 Game Drives in the wildlife-rich Etosha National Park, a sunrise excursion to the desert and a visit to a Big Cats Sanctuary are also included – as are the nightly sunsets usually watched round the fire or whilst viewing nocturnal activity at a waterhole with a nightcap. The trip will take a maximum of 8 passengers, allowing access to more remote areas, and giving guests an excellent opportunity to learn about the tribal cultures and wildlife from their expert guide.
There is one trip departing in November, plus further dates in 2009. For further details, see Nativeescapes.com.
