Butlins goes sushi

25th June 2008 Print
Butlins goes sushi Forget the British seaside favourite of fish and chips, Japanese sushi is going on the menu at Butlins. From Wednesday, Butlins first sushi bar is opening at the Shoreline Hotel in Bognor Regis. For just £7.95, guests can enjoy a ten-piece platter of Japanese delicacies including seafood gunkan, smoked salmon nigiri and tuna maki rolls.

Butlins chefs have received special training from sushi experts so they can make the healthy platters fresh daily on Resort and traditional recipes have been slightly adapted to accommodate British tastes.

It’s the latest move in a steady introduction of new choices at the company’s Resorts, alongside the old favourites. Butlins has rewarded 100,000 children for eating five portions of fruit and veg a day during their stays*. And new juice and smoothie bars have just opened for summer.

Said Managing Director of Butlins, Richard Bates: “Families tuck into all sorts of food at home these days and naturally they want more choice when they’re here too. We’ve responded to demand for more exotic and healthy choices while on holiday. You might see Sushi as the contemporary version of fish and chips.”

Sushi, which is low in fat and high in Omega-3 fatty acids, has been introduced by Butlins to give guests more variety while on holiday.

Said Anita Bean, children’s nutrition expert: “Trying new flavours is part of the whole holiday experience for kids as well as adults. Given the chance, children like experimenting and love tucking into healthy foods like sushi.”

From Big Brother to Butlins, could this be the summer of sushi for Britain?
