How not to end your holiday with a bang
As the summer holiday season approaches and more holidaymakers travel to and from the countries airports, Saga Holidays* reveals research showing that over three million drivers admit driving home tired after flying long-haul.The Saga study revealed that over half (53%) of people have to drive over 50 miles to get home from the airport suggesting that the average journey time would be more than an hour.
Too little sleep and the effects of travelling through different time zones radically affects ability to drive safely, and after five hours’ sleep there is only a one in ten chance of staying fully awake on a lengthy journey.
To reduce the risk of accidents and avoid the dangers of driving tired, all customers living within 75 miles of the airport and travelling long-haul to exotic destinations, including Egypt, Borneo, Central and South America and Madagascar with Saga Holidays are entitled to a complimentary door to door chauffeur car service, which will allow them to avoid dangers of driving after a long flight. Saga actively encourage customers to take up this service and guarantee not to add any fuel surcharges for any journey taken with them.
Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive of Saga, commented “This research reveals a worrying picture. A lack of sleep onboard can mean that drivers are not fully alert for the journey home. We recommend that anyone travelling home after flying plans their journey to include time for adequate rest, make arrangements through Saga or use public transport to get home if they know they are likely to feel tired.”
