Big game viewing in Kenya accessible to the whole family The ‘greatest wildlife show on earth’ is about to begin, as the migration season gets underway in Kenya. From July through to October, over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle start their pilgrimage in search of food and water – closely tracked by Africa’s great predators, including lions, cheetahs and leopards. Specialist tour operator, Africa Sky, has some exceptional safari packages during 2008 offering couples and families alike first-hand experience of the very best that Kenya’s wildlife has to offer.

Migration Safari from £1,998 Per Person

This luxurious seven-night safari in the Maasai Mara combines three of Kenya’s finest wildlife areas with two nights at the Porini Amboseli Camp in Selenkay Conservancy neighbouring Amboseli National Park, two nights at Porini Rhino Camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, two nights at the Porini Lion Camp in the Olare Orok Conservancy adjacent to the Mara Reserve and a night in Nairobi.

On safari, accommodation is on an all-inclusive basis staying in spacious tents with en-suite bathrooms and outside seating area and includes escorted walks with Maasai warriors, day/night game drives in open 4x4’s, road and flight transfers, taxes and surcharges. Guests will spot everything from gazelles, giraffe, wildebeest, warthog and the Big Cats for which the Mara is famous. All Safari camps are small and exclusive and run on the same principles - working closely with the local communities.

Available throughout July to October, from £1,998 per person, it also includes return flights from London Heathrow with Virgin Atlantic, an overnight stay in the Nairobi Hotel, internal flights, transfers, all taxes and surcharges.

Family Safari from £2,040 Per Person - Excellent Rates For Children

Designed especially for families, this one-week safari offers comfortable accommodation, plenty of game viewing opportunities in 4x4 safari vehicles and lots of activities for children. It visits three very different reserves, rich with game - Ol Pejata Conservancy, Samburu and the Maasai Mara and offers accommodation at Porini Rhino Camp, the largest rhino conservancy in East Africa and the Intrepids tented camps. Travel between the parks is by air to avoid long road journeys for the younger members.

Children will enjoy the Intrepids tented camps in Samburu and Maasai Mara, as they each offer an Adventure Club. For the under 12’s there are activities such as building a mini Maasai homestead, learning to make a fire with a pair of sticks, catching and studying the brightest butterflies, planting a tree and helping bring back the rains and casting big cat tracks from the real thing. Whilst teenagers can experience bush orienteering, astronomy lessons, tree identification, mammal behaviour studies and guided bush walks.

A seven-night family safari in October starts from £2,040 per adult and £1,384 per child under the age of 12 (sharing with two adults). The price includes flights from London Heathrow with Virgin Atlantic, safari accommodation on a full-board basis with two nights each at Porini Rhino Camp, Samburu Intrepids and Mara Intrepids and a final night in a hotel in Nairobi, an excursion to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, all internal flights and transfers, park entrance fees, taxes and surcharges.
