Adventure on South Africa’s Garden Route
Native Escapes, specialist operator to Southern Africa, has announced a new 12 day small group trip to Cape Town and the Garden Route in South Africa: with an emphasis on adventure. The fully guided trip – with a maximum of 8 passengers per departure - includes 3 days in Cape Town, perhaps one of the world’s most beautiful cities, with a cosmopolitan atmosphere, lively music scene, some excellent bars and restaurants and stunning beaches. A stop in the stunning winelands, fast becoming a top gastronomic destination, is also included before heading along the Garden Route, famous for its stunning scenic blend of long sandy beaches, forested mountains and extensive activity options.
But what makes this trip different is the emphasis on adventure. Seeing a colony of African penguins becomes a far more interesting from a kayak. Wine tastings become much more fun when the method of transport between vineyards is on mountain bike. The forest takes on a whole new dimension when viewed from the treetop canopy tied to a wire cable and harness.
The trip also includes hikes in the forest, an ocean safari to spot dolphins, whales and Cape Fur Seals, and a trip to a monkey and elephant sanctuary for a first-hand glimpse of how rehabilitation and conservation of these native species works. There is also an opportunity to extend the trip with a safari at a Private Game Reserve.
Accommodation along the way is in 4 star lodges, and guides are locals with a special knowledge of and enthusiasm for the unique flora and fauna and cultural and historical aspects of their country. There are 5 departures scheduled for 2009, including at Easter and over the May & August Bank Holiday: prices start from £2,770 including flights, accommodation, transport and two meals per day.
