July payday sees Brits rush to the beach

Leading online travel retailer On the Beach witnessed record sales this payday weekend, up a staggering 28% on the previous weekend with sun-starved Brits booking beach holidays in their droves.

As the weather in Britain continues to disappoint, with more rain due to hit our shores throughout August, record numbers of Britons booked a holiday this payday weekend. Sun drenched Turkey was the most popular destination, currently enjoying temperatures in the mid 30’s.

As the nations salaries hit the bank accounts, Brit’s were busy searching for holiday bargains with such destinations as Mallorca (currently experiencing temperatures of 28°), Egypt, (38°), Costa Brava (30°) and the Canary Islands (26°) also proving particularly popular.

In the North East and North West, Turkey was the favoured destination with 36% of bookings made whilst in the Midlands, mainland Spain and the Canary Islands hit the top spots with 42% of bookings.

London and the South East favoured Egypt, Turkey and the Canaries, making up 55% of all bookings.

In Scotland, Spain and Turkey once again proved as popular as ever with 41% and 22% respectively.
