Dorset is best for county shows

13th August 2008 Print
Dorset is best for county shows Don’t miss a trip to Dorset this September for the Dorset County Show, the region’s biggest agricultural show, taking place on the weekend of 6th and 7th September. Top of the bill will be a spectacular display from the Royal Artillery Motorcycle display team, The Flying Gunners, as well as a beer tent serving locally brewed ales, cookery demos from local food producers and flying displays from Scarlet the Red Kite and her master, falconry expert, Jonathan Marshall.

The kids will fall in love with the British Spotted Pony, making its first appearance this year in a new class. Varieties including the leopard spotted, the blanket spotted and the adorable miniatures, which stand at less than 42”.

Listen to some of the county’s leading Town Criers compete for the title of Dorset Town Crier on the 7th. And let baby join in with the attempt to break the world record for the most people involved in a town cry!

The 2008 show also offers a shopper’s paradise with 450 stands selling everything from sausages to tractors and locally produced ice cream.

Bring the whole family, including the dog, and stay at Cerne Barn, an 18th century barn conversion just 1 ½ miles from Dorchester. This three-bedroom property sleeps seven and costs £565.
