Take a break from Britain

30th September 2008 Print
Take a break from Britain Need a break from wet, financially-strapped and overcrowded Britain? Dragoman Overland offers the best value antidote, a 16-night East Africa & Zanzibar Overland from Zanzibar to Nairobi, taking advantage of great weather on the Indian Ocean coast, wild camping in the Serengeti and hands-on involvement with local community projects, departing Dar es Salaam on 26th October 2008.

The journey kicks off with a relaxed introduction to overlanding, spending 3-days on the tropical Spice Island of Zanzibar, where stunning palm-fringed beaches and bustling markets offer a warm African welcome! Next, Dragoman Overland takes full advantage of its mobility by wild camping in the Serengeti National Park, allowing travellers to observe plains game first hand.

A further new perspective is available during an optional early-morning balloon safari, followed by champagne breafast under an Acacia tree, offering memorable views over the East African savannah. Other highlights include Tanzania’s spectacular Ngorongoro Crater and Conservation Area, Kenya’s Masai Mara, and Lake Nakuru, home to huge flocks of lesser and greater flamingos.

More aspects of Africa are explored during a camel trek to a local Masai Boma community project where travellers learn about pastoralist peoples’ way of life – proceeds aiding the local community. Just outside Nairobi travellers get hands-on at the Kariandusi School Trust’s latest project at Langalanga, where participation in teaching, building fabrication and land management is the order of the day.

The overland costs £575 p/p plus kitty of US$710 (~£382) including travel aboard Dragoman Overland’s customised Mercedes-Benz truck, hotel and camp accommodation (25%/75%), all camp meals plus the expertise of Dragoman's two person crew and local campmaster. Flights are not included but are available through Dragoman Overland.
