Local MP Goes Even Greener with Mercedes-Benz

Mark Lancaster, Conservative MP for North East Milton Keynes, tests a Mercedes-Benz R-Class fuelled with ultra-clean biodiesel Mark Lancaster, Conservative MP for North East Milton Keynes, is going green by testing a Mercedes-Benz R-Class fuelled with ultra-clean biodiesel.

The new sports tourer from Mercedes-Benz will be fuelled with a 5% mix of biodiesel for a long distance trip of around 500 miles. Lancaster is taking David Cameron’s lead in encouraging Britain’s families to “go green” by switching to more environmentally-friendly vehicles or fuel.

With a tank capacity of 80 litres, and the latest in diesel engine technology, the R-Class, which can seat up to seven people, is well equipped to do more than 30 miles to the gallon. Vehicles running on biodiesel have up to 70% less carbon monoxide emissions and there is a significant reduction of particulates and hydrocarbons.

The biodiesel used for the trip is supplied by Biofuels Corporation.

Mark Lancaster said: “Using biodiesel in our cars is just one example of how we can ‘Go Green’ and make a contribution to reducing the threat of climate change. Every household and business needs to take steps to reduce emissions and reduce energy; for example, I’m particularly keen to talk to local businesses in Milton Keynes about using renewable fuels in their fleets and thereby cutting emissions.”
