Explore the scenery of South Devon

17th December 2008 Print
The history of the fabulous coastline and scenery of South Devon will be on show with a new walking break from Torquay’s TLH Leisure Resort. The break, Walking for Pleasure, will be led by Gerald and Margaret Thompson who have spent the last 17 years exploring the area and are now keen to show it off to others.

It will take place from March 23 to 26 2009 and will consist of daily walks around the stunning coastline, taking in the sandy beaches, rocky coves and picturesque harbours that make up the English Riviera.

Gerald explained: “Margaret and myself are keen walkers – in fact our two main recreational pursuits are walking and dancing. We’ve spent many years exploring the local countryside and coastal walks and we never tire of the scenery, it’s absolutely beautiful.

“We know where the best tea places and comfort stops are and have spent many years researched the history of the area.

“The walks will start from the hotel and we’ll ease in gradually with a comparatively short walk of around five miles, building up to a longer walk of around ten miles on the last day.”

Sights taken in will include the world famous Cockington village, Babbacombe Downs and the historic and picturesque fishing port of Brixham.

Along the way, Gerald and Margaret will ensure architectural features are pointed out and explained and there will also be time to enjoy a Devon cream tea or a spot of retail therapy.

Gerald added: “The emphasis is on walking for enjoyment. We want to encourage the social side as well. If anyone can’t manage all the distances, there is also the option to use public transport.”

The four night break is based in TLH’s three star Toorak Hotel and costs £189 for dinner, bed and breakfast. It also includes a welcome drinks reception and a final night dance party.

TLH Leisure Resort consists of the Derwent, Victoria, Carlton and Toorak Hotels, plus self-catering apartments, all providing a choice of indoor and outdoor leisure facilities for holidaymakers and locals alike, including six top quality dance floors and an indoor bowling rink.
