December see double duty free
Have you ever been stood in the airport duty free shop, waiting for your flight home debating which of the latest Armani or Chanel fragrances you like best? Wondering how guilty you’re going to feel if you buy both? Are you constantly juggling between treats for the family and souvenirs of your holiday?Well this week brings welcome news - increased duty free allowances. As of Monday, 1st December, people arriving into the UK from destinations outside the EU can now bring in up to £300 of duty free goods, more than double the former allowance. With better news still to come, as in January a further increase to £340 will come into effect.
“This increase on duty free allowances has come at the pefect time”, says netflights.com’s Managing Director, Terry Fisher. “Despite the economic climate and the dreaded recession, people are not stopping spending money, merely changing their spending habits. It’s a time when we are all prioritising what we buy, looking for value for money and trying to make our pound go that little bit further”.
“In recent weeks, we’ve seen the big high street stores slashing prices and trying to direct consumer spending towards the retail market. In much the same way, the lowing of restrictions on duty free purchases, should provide a similar boost to the travel industry, encouraging people to travel further afield and pick up a bargain at the airport on their way home”.
Christmas is nearly upon us and if the thought of the post festive blues and January sales fills you with dread, then why not redirect your thoughts to a break away. Forget about stress of spending your time fighting crowds in search of a bargain. Pack your suitcase, board a plane and take yourself away for a well deserved holiday, safe in the knowledge that you can still pick up a good deal at the airport on your departure.
