Stop in the name of love if you adore Motown

7th January 2009 Print
'Stop in the name of love' is the message from the fabulous Beach House in Blackpool, where five star, self-catering luxury can be combined with a not-to-be-missed Motown break this January.

The resort’s Grundy Art Gallery is staging an exhibition of iconic gowns and stage outfits worn by the world’s most successful girl band, The Supremes.

The exhibition, entitled ‘The Story of The Supremes from the Mary Wilson Collection’, has been arranged by the V&A, in collaboration with The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and runs until February 1 2009.

This is the perfect exhibition for all fashionistas and lovers of the music of the Sixties, as well as those with an interest in the American civil rights movement, as it is set against a backdrop of separation and black rights. It also demonstrates how The Supremes influenced present day artists like Destiny’s Child and features commentary from DJ Trevor Nelson, TV footage and iconic photography.

With over 50 of the group’s most stunning outfits on show, it makes sense for exhibition goers to not hurry things and make a visit the focus of a weekend break. A weekend stay at The Beach House matches the style of The Supremes, with contemporary luxury, providing a perfect chill-out zone within which guests can watch the sun set over the sea whilst sipping a glass of wine, or enjoying all the mod cons available.

Although Beach House guests feel like superstars throughout their stay, the price of a five star weekend here comes at a very affordable price. A two-night stay in the Seahorse suite, sleeping 1-4 people, costs just £160. Those with infants will also be delighted to hear that there’s also room for a baby thanks to the family-friendly nature of the Beach House.

To book a stay, log on to Thebeachhouseblackpool.co.uk. The Story of the Supremes exhibition is open seven days a week, from 10am-5pm each day. Admission to the Grundy Art Gallery is free and more information is available at blackpool.gov.uk.
