Anyone for Camel Polo?

27th January 2009 Print
Anyone for Camel Polo? Horses are history. Elephants are two-a-penny. Nowadays the discerning polo player does what the Mongolians have been doing for years and chooses a camel for his chukka. From January 2009, Exsus takes its clients beyond the beach and adds camel polo to its Dubai programme.

Two players are assigned a camel, one sitting in front of the hump and one behind it, who also wields the polo stick. The camel is allowed two “lie downs” per game to allow for bad moods. Each is accompanied by a trainer on foot, whose greatest concern is to prevent the camels from walking in single file.

A day out playing camel polo costs from £130 per person with a minimum of eight people required. This includes a warm-up training session, the camels and their trainers, all equipment with helmet and chaps, soft drinks, a polo shirt and a prize for the winning team.

Exsus offers a week in Dubai at the Mina al Salaam at Madinat Jumeirah from £1499 per person, including 7 nights in a Deluxe Room, return flights with British Airways with a special offer price valid until 14th February, airport transfers and one day of camel polo.
