The smart destination: Brooklands

Visitors are welcome from 8:00am for what promises to be the largest gathering of smart cars in Europe. Doors to Mercedes-Benz World open from 10.00am and activities start at 12.00 noon, including the first UK sighting of the new smart fortwo BRABUS alongside the smart fortwo and the innovative smart ed (electric drive).
Visitors will be able to enjoy a host of smart-related brand displays, including a giant egg and spoon race, a unique spin on this original ‘sports-day’ game, as giant attachments are added to the front of participating smart cars. ‘Ping the Ring’ will invite guests to drive through a ‘coned’ course with a basketball shooting challenge through the ‘sun-roof’ to finish.
For those wanting some serious large-scale action, the smart forfun2 (a standard car with a monster-truck make-over) will be doing demonstrations on the off road course.
The smart festival will incorporate all of the attractions in Mercedes-Benz World, including the Crash Test Dummy character that is a favourite with all visitors and the smart display team will also be on hand to show-off their impressive skills on the Mercedes-Benz World handling circuits.
Al Young, Chairman & Managing Director of thesmartclub, said: “We’re delighted that this year’s main UK gathering of smart drivers, will take place at Mercedes-Benz World. Last year’s smart Rally to Brighton started from this exciting venue shortly before it opened to the public. We had so much positive feedback that we decided to hold an entire smart event there in 2007.”
Peter O’Halloran, managing director Mercedes-Benz World, said: “The relationship between smart owners and the brand is so strong that Mercedes-Benz World houses a dedicated area to showcase the full range. Everyone is welcome to come along to the event on 28th July and enjoy the smart spectacle.”
Other displays include a cut-away smart, showing the Tridion safety cell, and a range of prototypes showing the development of smart through the years.
Mercedes-Benz World AMG and 4x4 driving experiences will also be running throughout the day with packages starting from as little as £25 for a 15 minute passenger ride to £100 for an hour driving package.
Entrance to the event is free; however visitors wanting to take part in activities during the day must register at thesmartclub.com they will then receive a wrist band via post, to wear throughout the day. Those visitors not wearing wristbands will only be able to spectate during the festival, they will not be permitted to take part in specific events.
