Adventure company says ‘bring on the snow!’
This week, Britain was brought to a near standstill by less than 10cm of snow – a natural response from a country that’s running out of road salt stocks after 3 days. However, Peregrine Adventure’s has no need for salt, and positively relishes in the opportunity to experience a real cold-snap amongst the frozen landscapes of the High Arctic.Join the experts on a journey exploring the Svalbard archipelago, the fjords of East Greenland and Iceland’s volcanic Westmann Islands. Peregrine Adventure’s 13-night Spitsbergen, East Greenland & Iceland expedition voyage departs Longyearbyen 6th July 2009.
The Svalbard archipelago spans an area of around 62,000 square kilometres north of Norway’s mainland, and is host to around 5,000 Polar Bears, numerous Walrus, prolific birdlife and dazzling Arctic landscapes. From Spitsbergen, journey aboard expedition vessel Peregrine Voyager, stopping for Zodiac explorations around the ice-cliff face of 14th of July Glacier and visit the world’s most northern permanent community and international Arctic research base station at Ny Ålesund.
Sail over the most northerly point of Spitsbergen, enjoy spectacular tundra walks at Worsleynesset, then visit the protected Walrus sanctuary at Moffen Island. Cross the Greenland Sea to Greenland itself, one of the world’s most pristine destinations, taking in spectacular ocean vistas from the ship’s deck. Explore Greenland’s stunning fjord landscapes on the eastern coast, and visit isolated Inuit communities that reveal more of the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Continue through Denmark Strait keeping watch for whales en route to Iceland’s volcanic Westmann Islands - one of the world’s youngest archipelagos and home to around 10 million puffins, before the journey concludes in Reykjavik.
The expedition voyage costs from 2,875 p/p including transfers, port taxes, full board accommodation onboard ship, all activities and zodiac excursions, education programme and expert guiding. Flights are not included.
