Budget bucket & spade family holidays in Yorkshire

19th February 2009 Print
Hard-pressed families are expected to adopt the traditional 'bucket and spade' British holiday this year, which means self-catering cottages on the coast will be in high demand during the school summer break.

But a new addition, Sunny Bay near Filey, has only just been added to Yorkshire Cottages' portfolio and is still widely available for July and August.

The two-bedroom property sleeps four (and one pet - at no extra charge) and is only a short stroll from a splendid Blue Flag beach.

Forming part of a unique development set amongst woodland and meadows, it makes an ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire resorts of Filey, Whitby, Bridlington and Scarborough and costs £550 for a week in July or August.

For a larger property, three-bedroom Grade II-listed Coble Cottage - which sleeps six - in the pretty village of Sewerby, boasting a model village and stunning cliff top walks, is just two miles along the coast from the popular resort of Bridlington.

The cost during the school summer holidays in July/August is just £500 for a week or around £84 each based on a full house.

Finally, Travellers Rest Farm Cottage is on a working dairy farm, close to the village of Ugthorpe - just a 10-minute field stroll away or two miles by car - near Whitby.

This two-bedroom/two-bathroom property sleeps up to six (plus a pet - at no extra charge) and has views across open countryside out to sea. The cost for a week in July is £610.
