Not just a tail end - Tanzania to Kenya
The next episode in David Attenborough's new documentary series Nature's Great Events focuses on the planet’s most dramatic wildlife spectacles - the Great Migration of over one million wildebeest and zebra across the Serengeti. Although only catching the ‘tail end’ of the migration, Dragoman combines the perfect blend of East Africa’s wildlife and culture.Camp amongst the wilderness of the Serengeti, jeep safari in Ngorongoro Crater, explore the spectacular Usambara Mountains, chill out on the beaches of the Indian Ocean, and discover Tanzania’s idyllic and exotic island of Zanzibar. Dragoman still has places available on its 13-night Road to Zanzibar, departing Dar es Salaam 26th April 2009. (ZND139).
From Dar es Salaam, begin the journey with three nights on Tanzania’s exotic spice island, Zanzibar. Next, explore the beautiful Usambara Mountains, overlooking the vast Maasai steppe where few tourists visit. At Amani Orphanage in Moshi, spend time with the children, making crafts or out on the football pitch, then head for Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes and an overnight stay. Later, take in classic East African vista’s in the Serengeti - rolling grasslands dotted with acacia trees, waterholes and rivers, all supporting an abundance of wildlife including the Big 5.
Here, wildcamping in the middle of the plains allows travellers to soak up the atmosphere of the bush - surrounded by animals and nocturnal noises of the hunters and the hunted! For an alternative perspective, enjoy an optional balloon flight. Further highlights include a jeep safari in Ngorongoro Crater and the opportunity to walk with the Maasai at Mto Wa Mbu before reaching Nairobi and the end of the road!
