Bargain hunting in France

16th March 2009 Print
Grab a bargain at Easter at the huge antiques fair at L'Isle sur la Sorgue, Provence (10-13 April). The event is now firmly on the international antique collectors' map and a lovely Spring break for all - whether you're after antique furniture, kitsch bric-a-brac or just want to soak up the sunshine and atmosphere.

Stay at the nearby Provence Country Club which offers accommodation in a series of Provencal style houses, split into apartments, with use of tennis courts, a pool, gym and a superb 18-hole golf course. One week in April costs from £78 per person (based on six sharing) and includes a 20% discount on green fees (cost of green fees not included).

Known as the Venice of Provence, L'Isle sur la Sorgue is a charming small Provencal city, interlaced with canals and narrow ancient streets, 25 kms south of Avignon. Most of the old town was built on wooden and stone stilts right above the river and numerous water wheels are still present. Antique dealers and second-hand shops are a permanent fixture in the town.

Low-cost flights are available with Ryanair to Nimes from Luton and Liverpool. For further information, visit WakeupinFrance.co.uk.
