Spring into Sicily

16th March 2009 Print
soloSicily has launched a selection of apartment and city breaks, with accommodation in palaces and historical buildings, in the heart of Palermo, Taormina and Syracuse. Head to Sicily for the perfect combination of Sicilian culture and beach life in warm Spring temperatures.

Syracuse - under £80: Explore the art and architecture of Syracuse, one of Sicily's most fascinating cities and home to one of the world's largest ancient Greek amphitheatres. A three night break in Archimedes, a stylish apartment in an ancient palace in Ortygia, the historical core of the city, costs from £78 per person in April, based on six sharing.

Taormina - under £200: Taormina is unbeatable when it comes to combining culture with beach life and a spot of retail therapy. Explore beyond the town's main Corso Umberto and you'll find restored mediaeval buildings and a network of winding streets lined with boutiques, bars and restaurants. Head for the beach or Taormina's spectacular open-air Greek amphitheatre - the heart of the action during the town's international film festival in mid-June.

Stay in Solena, a town-centre apartment just a short walk from the amphitheatre. A three night break in April starts at £188 per person (based on two sharing).

Palermo - under £300: Visit the city's ancient palaces and popular street markets, head for the beach resort of Mondello for a morning 'cappuccino' and explore the magnificent cathedral and cloisters at Monreale to the south of Palermo.

Stay in the 12th century Palazzo Federico where vast double-height salons drip with chandeliers and gold-framed portraits and floors are adorned with intricate Oriental rugs. A three night break in April starts at £264 per person (based on two sharing) in one of the new mini-apartments, formerly the inner courtyard stables, or £540 per person in the magnificent Federico Suite in the main 'palazzo'.

soloSicily features apartment, villa and boutique hotel accommodation throughout the island. Properties sleep from two to 38, including several magnificently-restored villas on vast aristocratic-owned estates. Additional services featured include maid service, catering, cookery classes, wine-tastings, local excursions and guided mountain bike tours.
