Seaside shacks with style

7th April 2009 Print
Turkey specialist, Journey Anatolia, is highlighting a selection of small, beachside Mediterranean properties - ranging from simple family-run 'shacks' to stylish handcrafted wooden chalets on a sophisticated beach retreat - as an option to those who fancy escaping the tourist hoards this summer.

For example, the Ettena on Cirali Beach offers 10 individual beach 'shacks' set in shady gardens with direct access to the beach where loggerhead turtles make their home. Each open plan shack is ensuite, air-conditioned and has a small fridge - but no other concessions to 21st century life.

The emphasis at this family-run property is on sun, sea and good food, with meals served on the patio overlooking the beach, dining by candlelight in the evening so as not to disturb the turtles.

A week's half-board at Ettena between May and September costs £348 per person, based on two sharing a shack: a third person - adult or child - can be accommodated at £25 per night.

For those seeking a sophisticated beach resort, the Arcadia Hotel beach retreat on Olympos Beach offers exclusivity, but is unpretentious and understated. It's home to five spacious wooden chalets with ensuite facilities and mini bar, along with air-conditioning and private porch.

There are no rigid meal times, no TVs in the rooms or loud music in the bar; instead guests can enjoy peace and tranquillity in breathtaking surroundings.

A week's holiday at Arcadia between May and September costs £445 per person, based on two sharing a chalet on a bed and breakfast basis: a third person - adult or child - can be accommodated at £30 per night.
