Singapore proves top choice for value

Singapore proves top choice for value Singapore, historically one of the UK’s popular long haul destinations for travellers, continues to entice visitors with its “2009 Reasons to Enjoy Singapore” campaign.

Featuring special packages, promotions and value-added incentives with key industry partners, now is the perfect time for travellers to enjoy the country’s many cultural attractions and engaging activities that make it such a great holiday destination and stopover hub.

Plus today, Singapore Airlines, in conjunction with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, has launched the Fabulous Singapore Stopover package offering UK customers the opportunity to experience the destination for one pound sterling for the first night at selected hotels across the Island!

The “2009 Reasons to Enjoy Singapore” campaign is part of the destination’s £42 million BOOST initiative, (Building on Opportunities to Strengthen Tourism) an aggressively innovative approach adopted by the STB to highlight and enhance the destination’s many attractions for families, couples and individual travellers. STB’s Area Director for Northern and Western Europe, Divya Panickar, explains:

“The UK market is very important to us with almost half a million British travellers visiting us last year. In these challenging economic times, we want to continue to offer the best possible value so they can enjoy a truly spectacular holiday experience and maximise their budget.”

Adding to Singapore’s perennially popular attractions such as the Night Safari, a whole host of recently and soon-to-open attractions mean that Singapore is constantly reinventing itself to offer exciting experiences to visitors. These include the world’s largest observation wheel, the Singapore Flyer. Towering at 165 metres, the structure offers a stunning 360° day-to-night panorama of Singapore city, as well as parts of Malaysia and Indonesia. Celebrating its first year anniversary this month, it has already attracted over 1,900,000 visitors.

For adrenalin seekers Singapore hosted the world’s first-ever Formula One night race last year and will continue to do so through to 2012. Also opened last year was the Marina Barrage – a dam creating Singapore’s first inner-city freshwater reservoir providing a range of water-based activities for leisure and business events.

Additional outdoor pursuits include The Southern Ridges, a nine kilometre string of footpaths and bridges, which link the hills and green spaces that span the four parks of Singapore.

For shopaholics, Singapore has always been a draw and this is now further enhanced with the recent completion of the £18 million Orchard Road rejuvenation project that includes an array of shopping options, eclectic dining, atmospheric lighting and public spaces in the form of ‘green rooms’ that provide impromptu open-air stages for urban events.

Later this year will see the eagerly-awaited opening of the first of two integrated resorts, the Marina Bay Sands that will add 2,600 rooms to Singapore’s hotel capacity, plus an innovative “Sky Park” and Singapore’s first casino.

The Fabulous Singapore Stopover package is valid from 15 April to 30 September 2009, for passengers booking flights via Singapore to an onward destination on Singapore Airlines. The special first night rates of one pound sterling are per person, based on a twin-share basis. Additional package benefits include free entry to some of Singapore’s leading tourist attractions, including Sentosa Island, Singapore Zoo, Malay Heritage Centre, National Orchid Garden, Peranakan Museum, Singapore River Bumboat Tour and Jurong Bird Park.
