Summer in Alaska
USA specialist TrekAmerica offers adventures in Alaska ranging from seven to 28 days, but with tours only available between June to September and many departures already sold out, travellers are advised to book now.
For the best chance of finding midnight sun…
Book the seven-day Alaskan Denali tour. The first departure takes place in the run up to the summer solstice (21st June) when Alaska enjoys up to 19 hours of daylight. Alaskan Denali takes a circular route from Anchorage to Denali National Park, the Tangle Lakes and Wrangell-St Elias National Park, offering trekking in the shadow of the continent’s highest peak, glimmering glaciers and raft churning rivers.
Alaskan Denali costs £549 per person for the 14th -20th June 2009 departure. Further departure dates are available between June and September, costing from £589 per person. Prices exclude flights.
For the best whale watching…
Head to Seward, the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. The 14-day Alaskan Wonder trip spends three days in Seward so travellers can take a boat trip in search of killer whales, which are present in the waters all year round. Sea lions, seals, otters and migrating whale species such as humpback and minke whales may also be spotted during the summer in Seward. Elsewhere on the trip, Trekkers will take a canoe trip in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, spend a night at a luxury wilderness camp tucking into Alaskan salmon bake and walk on the isolated beaches of Homer.
Save 5% on the first available departure of Alaskan Wonder, 28th June – 11th July 2009, which now costs £1,102 per person. Further departures are available in July and August 2009, costing from £1,159 per person. Prices exclude flights.
For the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights…
Travel late in the season. TrekAmerica’s final departure in Alaska for this year is the seven-day Alaskan Kenai trip, from 6th – 12th September 2009. The Northern Lights may be seen from Anchorage, where the trip starts and ends. Whale-watching is also on the itinerary for this trip, along with opportunities to hike to Exit Glacier or the Harding Icefields; white water raft; try halibut fishing; or go mountain biking for a true wilderness adventure.
Alaskan Kenai, 6th – 12th September 2009, costs £619 per person. Further departures of the trip are also available in July and August 2009, also priced from £619 per person. Prices exclude flights.
These are just three of the Alaska trips available this summer from TrekAmerica. For further details on all of TrekAmerica’s small group adventure tours, or for bookings, see trekamerica.co.uk.
